It is used to match you with your biometric data and other details in the National Identity Database during verification and authentication.
How to Find or Check your NIN Number
In this article, you will learn how to find your NIN number as well as how to link your phone number with NIN. The process is very simple and easy. It takes few seconds to minutes to complete depending on the mobile network operator (MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile), you use. If you don’t know your NIN, don’t worry.
To check your NIN, just dial:
*346# on the mobile number you used at the point of registration to get your NIN instantly.
How to link your phone number with NIN
If you are not sure of the mobile line you used when you registered, there is nothing to worry about. Below are the respective short codes to verify or link your NIN across all the major mobile operators in Nigeria.
Simply dial *200*8# and you will receive an on-screen prompt as shown below
To verify if your mobile number is linked with your 9mobile phone number, enter “1” and press the SEND button.
To link your 11 digit NIN number to your 9mobile number, enter “2” and press SEND, then enter 1*your NIN# and press SEND again.
You will receive an SMS notification confirming that you have successfully submitted your NIN. Please note that you will receive another SMS confirmation once your NIN has been validated and updated.

To link your NIN to your MTN line, simply dial *785*Your NIN# to update your details. Once successful, you will receive an SMS confirmation on the mobile line.
To link your NIN to your Glo line, simply SMS “UPDATENIN, NIN, FirstName, LastName” to “109“. For example, text UPDATENIN 55555555555 Okoro Ade-Musa to 109.
To link your NIN to your Airtel line, dial *121*1# and follow the on-screen prompts to complete.
